About us

The building we worship in at 220 E. Washington celebrated its centennial in 2008.  For over 100 years, people have gathered on this corner to celebrate and worship God.  Today we are a United Methodist congregation, however it has not always been that way.  Over the years, this church building has been home to United Brethren, Evangelical United Brethren, Methodist, and United Methodist congregations.  The diversity of tradition and peoples who have gathered in this place says a lot about who w are at the St. Paul Church.

We are people who recognize and value differences in others.  We acknowledge that we are all God's children but we do not all have the same gifts.  Scripture tells us that there are many gits but only one body.  At St. Paul we affirm the value of each person's unique gifts and we lift those gifts up as a part of what makes us strong.  We also affirm that we need each gift, each person to complete the ministry that God has called us to.  Without each unique person our work is diminished.  The hand cannot do the work of the eye, however together and with the power of Jesus Christ they can do great things.

We are a people who value continuity.  We affirm that in this world there are many people in need and those people need to know to whom they can reach out.  For the past 100 years, people of faith have been in this place, available to feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked and visit the sick.  The St. Paul Church is a community that has been here and will continue to be here to serve Arkansas City in what ever way God calls.

The St. Paul Church is a church with a sense of humor.  Over the years our sanctuary has been our kitchen and our kitchen has been so small we couldn't turn around without bumping into one another.  We have learned to laugh about the small details of our existence and we have learned to look forward to the times we can gather for fun and family sharing.  Our prayer is that we will continue to laugh and to celebrate and to share together in all that God has to offer.

We are a people of resurrection.  The St. Paul Church knows what it is like to have a little, and we know what it is to have a lot, but in all things we know that we can only accomplish what we can accomplish through the power of Jesus Christ.
We are the St. Paul Church, a United Methodist Congregation.  We pray that you will come and join us and help us grow into a future more glorious than anyone can imagine.  Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors.
